To limit Google Meet AI features (the Google Workspace AI Meetings and Messaging or Gemini for Works

Step 1: Turn off AI features for the entire organization

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin Console.
  2. Go to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace > Google Meet.
  3. Click on Gemini Settings (or Meet Gemini settings).
  4. At the top left, ensure the Top-level organization is selected.
  5. Select Off (or disable "Ask Gemini" and "Take notes for me").
  6. Click Save. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Step 2: Create a custom Configuration Group

  1. In the Admin Console, go to Menu > Directory > Groups.
  2. Click Create group to add a new custom group (e.g., Meet AI Allowed Users).
  3. Add the single user to this group. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Step 3: Explicitly allow the app for that specific group

  1. Return to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace > Google Meet > Gemini Settings.
  2. On the left side, select the Configuration Group you just created.
  3. Change the service status from "Off (inherited)" to On (or check to enable the AI features).
  4. Click Save
